The mighty Grifter started out its life in may 1976 and was a pre production model put on show in bike shops and shows across the country. The main production run was a month later in June and carried on until at least august 1979 with some of the later ones having a mk2 strengthening ring.
They come in 2 colours Metallic red and Metallic blue. The later 77-79 red mk1s were a more bronze colour where the gold basecoat showed through the red metallic topcoat.
There are so many variants of the MK1 from pre pros to oddity's (Raleigh were famous for the parts bin bike where odd parts were fitted to the wrong model) There were also deliberate changes on import models.
The Grifter production line went all the way until 1983 producing 9 different bikes including different colours of the same model as well as various import models of which numbers are debatable.
