This gets asked a lot and can be confusing. What are triangles??? what's a 2nd bridge??? Pointed or rounded dropouts?? and so on. So I'm goner try and cover all the differences in this thread with pics to go with the explanations. This does not cover the Supers, XL and GS models though. 1st the most obvious. The Mk1 has the short rear guard and the Mk2 the long guard. The front guards are the same. Short.... Long.... Wrap around flares?? These are found on the early Mk1's and as you can see from the pic they literally wrap around the guard, the later Mk1's and Mk2's had flat flares. Wrap Around.... Flat.... 2nd Bridge?? This refers to the extra bracket fitted to the early Mk1's that the rear guard was fixed to instead of using the brake mount as with the later Mk1's and Mk2's. 2nd Bridge.... Normal.... Handle bar length?? The Mk1's came with wider bars than the Mk2's, the foam pad was the same but the length of the end of the bars was longer. Mk1.... Mk2.... Seat?? All Mk1's and some early Mk2's came with the seat that had the block under it. This was dropped on the Mk2's. With.... Without.... Mk1 or Mk2 Seat Clamp?? The early Mk1 seat clamps are not flat across the top like the later mk1s and Mk2 clamps. Mk1.... later MK1 and Mk2.... Triangles?? Early Mk1's had little triangles on the back of the forks, although some later ones crop up from time to time with them as well, these were put on to protect the fork where it hits the steering stop. With.... Without.... Extra support ring?? This was a ring that was added to the bottom of the steerer tube on the Mk2's, although there are some early ones that are missing this extra ring, to stop the bottom of the steerer tube from splaying out. With.... Without.... Fork dropouts?? The fork dropouts on the Mk1's and some early Mk2's were pressed from the one piece of steel where the Mk2's were a machined fit using to separate components then welded together. Pressed.... Machined.... Pointed or Rounded Dropouts?? Early Mk1's came with a pointed rear dropout while the later ones and Mk2's had rounded dropouts. There are some cases of later Mk1's also having pointed dropouts. Pointed.... Rounded.... The early mk1s had no holes in the end of the grips. The later models did. Early mk1... Later Mk1s and Mk2s
